Steve Wilhite, inventor of the GIF format while at Compuserve in the 1980s, was honored at the Webby’s this year with a lifetime achievment award. The acceptance speech he gave should put to rest a debate that has been raging for quite some time on the internet: is Mr. Wilhite’s format pronounced with a ‘hard G’ or a ‘soft G’?

Well, we have our answer. And we also have a newfound appreciation for Mr. Wilhite’s brevity. Check it out below:

Over the past year, our GIF booths have been at some of the most creative, interactive parties in Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York. It looks and feels just like our Digital PhotoBooth, taking great looking shots and delivering crisp looking prints.  Here is how it works: guests step in front of the booth and are given a countdown before each of the 4 shots are taken. The 4 frame GIF file can be shared instantly on social networks, and a print with all four frames is printed. Additionally, there are options for instant display either on a plasma screen or as a projection. It is the animated Digital PhotoBooth experience! Here is our GIF booth, capturing a moment at the Fast Company & Scratch party in NYC this fall. One thing is certain, it brings out the performer in everyone!
